Over the past two years, Lansing and surrounding areas have experienced a large number of business closures.
Lansing businesses that have closed
We were saddened to see the doors close at DeLuca’s, Wings Over East Lansing, American Bistro and many more. One of the businesses that was very near and dear to many Spartans was the Spartan Hall of Fame Cafe.
The Spartan Hall of Fame Cafe closed for the last time just before Christmas 2021.
You can take a look at the heartfelt letter they posted on their Facebook page. The same letter was also taped to the doors of their physical building for customers to read.
The Spartan Hall of Fame also seemed to close quite abruptly.
FOX 47 News spoke to longtime patron Lynn Atkins who had this to say;
It was just such a shock because we were going there for dinner one night and it was like overnight – closed.
After about five months of the Spartan Hall of Fame Cafe being vacant, we now have an idea of what will occupy this space.
What future for the Spartan Hall of Fame?
According to FOX 47 News, General Manager Gabriel Schuchman said the space is being redeveloped for a retail mall. A fast-food chain and a medical retail business (both unspecified) are interested in the space, with construction to redevelop the building as early as this summer.
I’m sure many Lansing and East Lansing residents might have preferred to see something local and more mom and pop take over this space, but the silver lining is that at least new businesses arrive in the region.
In the meantime, we would also like new businesses to take over Tim Horton’s former location on Jolly near Dunckel. Take a look at the list below to see what Lansingans said they would like to see take over this space.
