Somebody Feed Phil’s Phil Rosenthal loves the Palace Diner

What a year this has been for the culinary world of Biddeford, Maine. Of Chiefs appointed by James Beard to the incredible writings of Food and Wine Magazine and others, it has truly been a year for the up and coming city. However, it doesn’t stop there, as the small town’s foodie facilities are once again in the spotlight.

The extremely popular The Netflix series, “Somebody Feed Phil” is back for a new season, and includes a trip to Maine. The show host, Phil Rosenthal, spoke to Forbes magazine talk about the upcoming season. One question posed was about her favorite dining experience of the trip. And, wouldn’t you know, it was in Biddeford.

Phil’s response was the famous Biddeford Palace Dinner Restaurant. The small establishment, which was originally built in 1927, absolutely floored Phil. Here’s what he had to say about his experience.

What they did [in Biddeford] is kept the traditional dinner dishes on the menu, but has improved all the ingredients and cooking techniques. So [customers] get idealized versions of omelettes, French toast, pancakes, burgers, sandwiches. I liked them all. [Eating at the diner] became one of the favorite things I’ve ever done on this show.

That’s high praise from a man who has spent nearly a decade traveling the world eating. Being able to leave that kind of lasting impression is not only impressive, but it’s also the goal of every chef in every restaurant on this planet.

The Palace Diner is run by Greg Mitchell and Chad Conley. The two took over the 14-seater dining car in 2014 and have received praise for their creative interpretations of restaurant classics. The dining car itself is an absolute classic. There is more character in this small restaurant than in entire towns. It is a very unique dining experience.

The new season is out now, which includes Phil’s jaunts across our great state. These include stops in Portland, Cape Elizabeth, Wiscasset, and more.

As for the Palace Diner, it is open every day from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. You can see the menu and find more information about the restaurant website.
