Tucked away somewhere in Jalan Besar is a cafe called Mrs. Durian.

If the name sounds familiar, that’s because it used to be a centrally located bakery and cafe in Poiz in Potong Pasir.

Independent durian cafe

Ms Durian moved to her self-contained cafe in Jalan Besar in February 2022.

The cozy cafe has a seating capacity of 30 inside. The cafe plans to have additional outdoor seating in June 2022.

As the name suggests, the cafe specializes in all things durian, with seemingly homemade durian sweets made daily.

Here are some things you can try at the cafe:

D24 Cracker (S$2.20 each, S$11 for five)

Creamy Durian Filled Baked Cracker Puffs D24.

MSW ice cream (from S$9)

Handmade eggless Mao Shan Wang durian ice cream, served with three mini puffs.

MSW Durian Pudding (S$6.50)

Durian pudding made from Mao Shan Wang’s durian and coconut milk.

Classic Durian MSW Cake (From US$12.50)

A cake with two layers of pure Mao Shan Wang between a vanilla sponge cake and covered with a thin layer of Madagascar vanilla whipped cream.

$45 durian tea

Ms. Durian also has two tea sessions each day, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The tea set costs S$45 per person and consists of four desserts and three savory items.

As the number of tea services is limited, customers are encouraged to make a reservation for tea sessions.

Eat durians under the stars soon

The recently opened café has many projects underway, including the launch of a durian café in collaboration with coffee roaster Raison D’ Café.

Ms. Durian is also collaborating with what they described as a “leading durian vendor” to sell fresh durians at the cafe so customers can dine under the stars.
