A former Chinese restaurant in Newcastle city center could be transformed into an ‘all you can eat’ global buffet under new plans.
The shuttered Lau’s 202 Buffet House on Newgate Street may soon house the Cosmo Authentic World Kitchen restaurant chain, which offers diners a choice of hundreds of dishes from around the world. Plans have been submitted to Newcastle Council by FSG Signs & Graphics Ltd to display two illuminated Cosmo Authentic World Kitchen branded signs on the front of the building.
The restaurant chain, founded in 2003, offers “an authentic tour of the world’s most beloved dishes under one roof”. Diners can enjoy an unlimited number of dishes for one fixed price each day, with dishes ranging from Asian cuisine to carvery.

The plans for the black and gold signage were submitted to City Council on April 8 and are pending approval. The restaurant will be the chain’s first in the city, if plans are given the green light by council planning officers.
Cosmo Authentic World Kitchen has restaurants across the UK and Ireland, including Edinburgh, Manchester and Doncaster. Their website says a restaurant in Newcastle is “coming soon”.
In addition to a menu of continental, Asian, carvery and charcuterie dishes, diners can also choose from a wide range of desserts and unlimited drinks.
