Plano steakhouse Steve Fields has reopened

Steve Fields’ new Steak & Lobster Lounge restaurant in West Plano is open at Park Boulevard and Preston Road. But regulars probably already knew that.

They’ve been calling owner Steve Fields for months, asking when the dining room will reopen at his new address so they can order blue cheese-stuffed tenderloins or blackened Chilean seabass and listen to live piano, one of the features of the restaurant.

The builder Bruce Russo emptied the space, closed the patio and transformed it into a piano bar, and redid the facade. This restaurant was formerly Brick House Tavern + Tap, and before that, Bennigan’s.(Jason Janik / Special Contributor)

The restaurant was open for 14 years on the northwest corner of Park & Preston. The new restaurant, on the southeast corner of Park & Preston, is within sight of the original.

But when it closed in September 2019, Fields thought that was it. He was tired and the owners of the building had sold the property, with nowhere to go for the steakhouse. But Fields was a little bored, not working in restaurants like he always had. And he realized that the neighbors wanted their steakhouse back.

“It was so emotional for so many people,” Fields says. “For 14 years, they have been celebrating all these special occasions with their family, friends and associates.

He only made two or three phone calls to former clients and he said he had enough funds to resuscitate Steve Fields in a new location. Fields says it’s funny that he searched all over Collin County for the next good restaurant and ended up so close to home.

Builder Bruce Russo designed the restaurant to be stately but not overdone. There’s a 4-foot-tall bouquet of flowers in the lobby, but inside there are no crystal chandeliers or $250 steak.

“There’s still some ‘ahh’ when you walk through the door,” Russo says, “but we’ve turned the music down, so to speak.” The lounge is around the corner, with a large bar as its centerpiece. The main dining room has comfortable banquettes and freestanding tables, with only one more table than the old restaurant.

It’s essentially a modernized version of the old restaurant, says Fields. The menu will also look familiar to regulars.

The most expensive menu item is an $82 ribeye. Nets cost between $49 and $58. Fields and Russo describe the restaurant as a “hands-on” steakhouse. Fields is proud of the stone crabs on the menu, inspired by his many years working for Truluck’s.

The restaurant is sold out for its opening weekend, March 4-6, 2022, Fields says. The only way to make a reservation is to call 972-596-7100. OpenTable reservations are expected to open next week.

Steve Fields Steak & Lobster Lounge is located at 4900 W. Park Blvd., Plano. It opened on February 27, 2022.
