Northstar Cafe plans to open its Shaker Heights location on June 1 in the Van Aken district.
Located on the corner of Farnsleigh and Warrensville Center roads, Northstar joins its sister establishment, Brassica, in the commercial development. The Shaker Heights location will be Northstar’s sixth. The first location was in Columbus in 2004, started by brothers Kevin and Darren Malhame. Decor will include hardwood booths, benches, Italian leather stools, copper fixtures and a bar that seats 24 people. In total, the interior space can accommodate 130 customers in addition to sitting on the adjoining patio.
“We’re looking for a relatively timeless, clean, and contemporary design aesthetic that truly reflects craftsmanship and materials in keeping with our approach to cooking and food,” Kevin Malhame told Scene Magazine. “There aren’t a lot of picky ingredients, it’s just good, high-quality ingredients put together with care and skill.”
The restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, as well as brunch on weekends.
“Shaker has been really good for Brassica, and Van Aken in particular is such a special project; it feels so good to be here,” Kevin Malhame told Scene. “And Shaker Heights is such a big community and there are clearly foodies of all kinds.”
