JACKSON, MI — Jacksonians love their Coney Islands, and they’re the staple of a family-run restaurant long known for serving up hot dogs slathered in a savory meat sauce.
Becky Lazaroff has owned Northwest Coney Island since February 2021, near Northwest High School, in the former Mountie High Malt Shop space. She opened the restaurant with her sons, Alex and Max,

Lazaroff ran Jackson Coney Island with her late husband, Phil, from 1999 to 2007. She said she loved Coney’s and the Northwest community.

“I just like talking to people,” Lazaroff said. “They are nice people here. They are very community oriented and happy to have our little restaurant here.
All of Northwest Coney Island’s food is homemade, Lazaroff said. On the large menu, customers can find almost anything dinner-related, including soups, burgers, salads, nachos, corn dogs, onion rings, chicken strips and more.
The most popular item on the menu, however, is the original Coney Island hot dog, as well as the Polish Coney Island, Lazaroff said.
Besides the food, the environment is a hit with customers, Lazaroff said, adding that people often come during their lunch breaks or stop by to meet friends.
“We have families, guys in boots and trucks, couples and a lot of takeout,” Lazaroff said.
Northwest Coney Island, 6070 Clinton Road, is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. More information can be found on his website and Facebook page.
