Reviewers of an online job posting were blown away by a restaurant’s generous offer to potential employees.
New Orleans-based restaurant Turkey and the Wolf shared an Instagram post yesterday (March 28) looking for a line cook at its dedicated breakfast spot called Molly’s Rise and Shine.
On the last day, the Publish has been liked over 1,200 times and also inspired an entire Reddit thread full of impressed commenters.
Starting with the explanation that Molly’s Rise and Shine has “gotten a little busier”, Turkey and the Wolf detailed what the restaurant expects from a new line cook and revealed a long list of benefits that accompany employment there.
“WE ARE HIRING A BREAKFAST COOK!” the post read. “IT’S A VERY FAST SUPPLY LINE, SO A LITTLE KITCHEN EXPERIENCE REALLY GOES A LONG WAY WHEN YOU JOIN THE TEAM.”
“PAYMENT STARTS AT $22-$25/HR, NIGHTS OFF, FREE FOOD, FREE DRINK, HEALTH INSURANCE [and] SCRAMBLED EGGS,” the post continues.
“KITCHEN AND [front of house] RUN BY WOMEN WE ALL KNOW IS BETTER, FREE HAT, PAID SICK LEAVE, FREE MENTAL HEALTH CARE, BACON, LOTS OF STAFF PARTIES, COOKIES, FREE OTHER CLOTHES, ALL TEAM MEMBERS HOURLY ARE PAID THE SAME AMOUNT [and] SAUSAGE”, he concludes.
When you are considering accepting a new position, the jobs website The muse reports that six factors weigh more heavily than others: potential colleagues, work environment, benefits offered, stability, projected salaries and finally, the candidate’s intuition.
Despite the importance of the six factors, benefits and wages often dominate the other four.
However, for those seeking restaurant employment, fair wages and benefits are not always guaranteed.
In 2019, the data collected by the restoration software company Grill revealed that only 31% of restaurants offer health insurance to staff members. And this year, the job site In effect reports that the average hourly wage for line cooks in the United States is $16.55, which makes perks and the $22-25 per hour offered in Molly’s Rise and Shine job listing a outlier on several fronts.
Throughout the comments section of the Instagram post shared by Turkey and the Wolf, users raved about the long list of perks and benefits, and some even said they would move to New Orleans. to take advantage of the offer.
“This is how you list a job,” one commenter wrote, adding a trio of cheering emojis.
“Got me bacon,” added another commenter. “I bet with this kind of caring staff, the food and service is excellent.”
“I may have to go back to NOLA for this job!” Added a third commenter.
In a Reddit Publish posted on the r/antiwork forum, which includes a screenshot of the post, which received over 7,000 votes, many Redditors responded with comments similar to those found on Instagram.
“Damn that sounds like a great place to work,” Redditor u/NorthernSmithy wrote.
“I’m down,” one Redditor commented. “Where do I sign ?”
“Been to this place and Turkey and Wolf a few times,” another Redditor wrote. “I follow them on IG…and I can tell the owner is someone 100 years old [percent] on our side and not afraid to say so.
“He does a lot for the community around him raising funds for natural disaster relief for the general welfare of the city of New Orleans and has earned his full respect,” they added.
Newsweek has contacted Turkey and the Wolf via direct message for comment.
