Tampa’s plant-based foodies will soon have to find another spot for greasy plates of penne alla vodka when the Ground Foods Cafe, located at 6428 N Florida Ave. in Seminole Heights, will permanently close this week.

In a Facebook post yesterday, Ground Foods Cafe said “we have made the decision to permanently close the cafe for many reasons, but the most important reason is that we need to be back home in New Jersey with our friends and family.” As expected, there are many comments from dismayed customers at the news of the closure.

In late 2019, Greg and Krissi Koodish opened Ground Foods Cafe in Seminole Heights and immediately received rave reviews for their organic, vegan Italian dishes.

In addition to the pasta dinners that put them on the map, Ground Foods Cafe is also known for its imported Italian wines, variety of sourdough flatbreads, homemade vegan cheeses, and decadent desserts, like its double oil cake. chocolate olive oil. The fast and casual Italian joint also caters to dietary restrictions and offers gluten-free pasta alongside regular pasta.

“We are so glad you all got to enjoy our food during the pandemic,” reads the Ground Foods website, as it prepares for its final days of operation.

Since Ground Foods Cafe is a fast casual cafe focused on counter service, we suggest grabbing takeout instead of dining in, assuming its final days will be busy.
