The British Pie Awards 2022 have come to an end for another year with a number of Greater Manchester’s top pastry chefs dominating the awards.
It’s no secret that we have some great pie offerings here in the North, with an endless array of fillings, flavors and varieties.
And that range shone at the British Pie Awards this year, with a number of local pie chefs from the region returning home with awards galore.
This year’s awards ceremony saw a record 976 entries from 179 pastry chefs from across the country, with 151 judges tasked with the enviable task of tasting and ranking each pie into gold, silver and bronze.
There were twenty-three different classes of pies and savory pastries and hot and cold desserts for judges to consider in the competition, which returned to its traditional March schedule after the pandemic saw the 2021 event moved to September.
Here are the pastry chefs who did Greater Manchester proud at the British Pie Awards this year…

Chef and owner of Ate Days A Week, Andy James, recently confirmed that he will be permanently moving his pies from Stockport to the city center at a venue “near Albert Square” later this year.
Bolton-based HM Pasties were also recognized at the awards, with their Cheese and onion tart earn money and their Traditional West Country Style Pate and Creamy leek and mushroom tart both winning bronze medals.
And HM Pasties isn’t just known for its pie offering; its owner Lee only employs ex-offenders because he thinks giving people the opportunity to get a job is “essential” to prevent recidivism.
The job gives its employees a stable income, a regular routine, and a reason to cook at home and regain their independence.
All ingredients are sourced exclusively from local prison farms and gardens.
